Dr. Omar Al-Bustanji, President of the Economic and Political Research Center, announced the commencement of the Center’s operations in Amman, emphasizing that its establishment reflects a strategic commitment to strengthening national capacities, promoting evidence-based policymaking, and contributing to sustainable development through rigorous scientific research and policy analysis.
Al-Bustanji noted that the creation of the Center is grounded in the growing recognition of knowledge production and scientific inquiry as essential drivers of state-building, institutional effectiveness, and long-term development. He stressed that research constitutes a critical component of contemporary governance, providing decision-makers with analytical frameworks and empirical evidence necessary for designing effective public policies and addressing complex economic and political challenges.
He further explained that the Center will focus on producing high-quality research, policy papers, strategic assessments, and analytical studies aimed at supporting policymakers, governmental institutions, and development stakeholders. In addition, the Center seeks to foster collaboration with universities, think tanks, and research institutions at both regional and international levels in order to enhance knowledge exchange and promote interdisciplinary approaches to development challenges.
According to Al-Bustanji, a central pillar of the Center’s research agenda will be the study of emerging economies and their evolving role within the global economic system. He highlighted that these economies possess considerable developmental potential and are increasingly shaping global economic dynamics. Consequently, the Center will examine the factors that influence their growth trajectories, including institutional quality, human capital development, innovation, investment flows, and governance frameworks.
Al-Bustanji also indicated that the Center will devote significant attention to analyzing the economic and geopolitical transformations affecting national states in an increasingly complex international environment. Through evidence-based research and policy-oriented recommendations, the Center aims to contribute to strengthening economic resilience, enhancing institutional sustainability, and supporting inclusive development strategies capable of responding to contemporary challenges.
He emphasized that the current global context necessitates greater integration between scientific research and public policy, arguing that sustainable development outcomes depend upon the effective utilization of knowledge and innovation in policy formulation and implementation. In this regard, the Center seeks to generate impactful research that addresses the developmental priorities of Arab societies and contributes to informed decision-making processes.
Concluding his statement, Al-Bustanji affirmed that the Economic and Political Research Center aspires to become a leading regional platform for scholarly dialogue, policy research, and intellectual exchange. He noted that the Center will work to bridge the gap between academia and policymaking while fostering a research environment that supports sustainable development, economic transformation, and evidence-based governance at both the regional and international levels.
